We primarily develop ocean models to conduct basic, curiosity-driven and applied oceanographic research, complementing simulations with measurements and theory.  Our central research explores the dynamics of a variety of turbulent ocean flows across multiple scales, with a particular focus on coastal regions.  We also collaborate on interdisciplinary themes, such as kelp forest ecosystem dynamics and marine carbon dioxide removal.

We are associated with the  Department of Geography, the Earth Research Institute,  Marine Science Institute, and Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Marine Science at UC Santa Barbara.

**We are not actively recruiting PhD students for the 2025-2026 application cycle.**
